CONCEPT OF TRIDOSHA
Your unique blueprint of mind/body constitution
Since man is a replica of Nature, Ayurveda embraces the theory five elements –space, air, fire, water and earth as basic constituents of all material existence. The combination of these elemental forces are translated in three doshas or ‘qualities’ in the human constitution. Vata (air +space), Pitta (fire+ water), Kapha( earth +water). They are biological energies that govern all bodily and psychological functions.
WE HAVE ALL 3 DOSHAS
However it is the proportion and combination of each of the dosha that is key to understanding and determining your individual nature. They account for all physical, psychological and emotional differences.
Have you ever wondered why you prefer warm foods, while some people favour salads or cold drinks? Why you are attracted to warm windy climates? Why you need eight hours sleep whilst others are doing just fine with five? Why faced to challenging situation, you might feel anxious or others my feel angry?
Knowing the inherent strength and weaknesses of you mind-body constitution will inform you on best strategies to adopt to improve your health with diet and lifestyle. The language of doshas : qualities and metaphors manifest physically ,psychologically and emotionally.
• Vata – qualities reflecting Air and Space: light, cold, dry, fast moving/thinking
• Pitta – qualities reflecting Fire and Water: hot, oily, irritable
• Kapha – qualities reflecting Earth and Water: cold, wet, stable
IN A NUTSHELL
You are born with a constitution (Prakriti), a unique combination of these doshas determined at birth. It is your balance state, when doshas are out of balance (Vikriti) and deviate greatly from your original constitution, disorder and disease appear.
HOLISTIC & INDIVIDUALIZED
A holistic and individualized approach entails as follows:
• Finding the root cause of ill health rather than treating or suppressing symptoms = determining the imbalance of doshas
• Restoring balance and harmonizing “mind-body’’ constitution = finding your ‘original’ health
• Individualized treatment as no two ailments manifest in the same way in people
